Village Idiot of the Day, December 14, 2011: antiunion1

With good reason, you could call I Hate Canton lazy.  After all, we've been gone  for quite awhile.  But,  today, as we peruse daily comments from our Reppies-- and have an assortment of Villagers to chose from -- we are still struck by antiunion1's  total  idiocy as he continues to defend his anti-American policy of shopping foreign-made, as long as it's not union.  At least dssteellman1 admits to shopping online as a way  to stick it to the Stark County Taxman, though we doubt ds is  particularly pro-union.  As a matter of record, IHC shops online, too, mostly for convenience, but in day-to-day transactions tries to buy local. We particularity appreciate a nearby locally owned beer, wine, and cellphone store.  Tax never occurred to us. Fast booze does.

Here we have antiunion1's  two latest:,  We are posting them in reverse order, to give a better picture of anti's pathology.

Best Option:  Buy Union
antiunion1
Geoff,

See if you really know me , i just dont buy from korea or china or even japan.... if you read my comments well i dont buy union made items! I own a kia today is because there is no non union made car company in the us (notice: kia even built a plant here in the us and i wont buy from it)...i do buy american made items as long they are not union made...i buy all the time from the internet and from companies across this nation. So i do support my fellow non union worker...again...I SUPPORT MY FELLOW NON UNION WORKER. (i do research and if that company is non union i buy from them....ie walmart target etc.)

Unions are the destruction of this nation and is why china is becoming the super power. American union workers are the greed of this nation and its becoming destroyed becuase of it therefor i will not and will not buy union items from this country!
ntiunion1
First i drive a nice kia that was totally made in south korea! next my job is very secure i work at walmart ...the biggest retail employer in the world and 100% non union thats why we are the best retail store in the world!
antiunion1 is clearly suffering from Stockholm Syndrome.  On one hand, he, most likely desperate for a job, took one at Walmart and now considers himself a Walton family member. (Perhaps antiunion1 was abandoned as a child).  On the other hand, he wants the rest of us to be as used, unprotected, and insecure as he is in his chosen profession..  Minimum wage (or a little +) is good. Well-paid workers and consumers are bad.  Unless, antiunion1 is a managerial hotshot at the home office, we're wondering how  a "sales associate," stocker, and greeter negotiates his individual wages and perks with the Colossus of Bentonville.

(Sidenote:  Speaking of money: IHC attended a professional conference three years ago  where one of the lunches was "sponsored" by Walmart,  a "close friend" of the organization. It consisted of a stuffed tomato, roll, and ice cream.)
Of course, we doubt antiunion1 is a hotshot.  One has only to read his posts to note his literacy level:  ---at least as far as proper capitalization is concerned. Perhaps he is texting his comments.
26 typos in the first post; 9 typos in the second post.
Conversely, we are impressed that antiunion1 spends hours researching online each purchase before its made to guarantee the product is untainted by the hands of union moneygrubbers and thugs.  We are, therefore, surprised that antiunion1 would choose the Repository for his instrument of communication, since its union.

Once again we are happy to present antiunion1 with the Village Idiot of the Day Award, December 14, 2011.

NOTE:  We have been referring to antiunion1 as a he, but we're not really sure.  Bruce Hodgkins comes to mind as the creator of antiunion1, but he's too full of himself to go non de plume, and we haven't heard yet what the Catholic Church thinks about unions We suspect he knows, and wont' tell. Women tend to research more than men, and we can't imagine any self -respecting man spending hours trying to deconstruct products for union taint. We'll keep referring to antiunoin1 as the default male until shown otherwise.

Village Idiot of the Day, December 12, 2011: antiunion1

We've been gone again, but not without guilt. We've been writing for another venue and looking for a job.  But we have a new idiot.  We mean a real idiot.  He or maybe he's a she, has driven us out of busy schedule for a moment (and hopefully longer).

Our newest idiot is antiunion1.  antiunion1 consolidates the worst attributes of  sourdough sal, Bruce Hodgins, mustangman, dssteelman1, ocean, Just S tom,  and octapuppet into one truly idiotic Reppie.--and just when we thought nobody could be more idiotic than the usual suspects.

Yesterday the Rep published a nice letter: Best Option: Buy Local  from Shirley Tope of Massillon, suggesting that people do their Christmas shopping at local stores, not online. Support the  local economy.   You know, the local economy that our local haters complain about incessantly.

Then pops in antiunion1:

antiunion1
i will only buy at walmart, I also buy what i can online...so i dont (as much as i have to ) pay stark county tax. I also DO NOT buy from union stores.

To uswapal - who thinks if you dont buy american your unamerican...well sorry my frieni would buy american once and only if unions are removed from society then ill buy american. OR if there was an american car company that was 100% non union then i buy one until then nope..ill continue to buy online! or from walmart!

antiunion1
sorry typo in last comment ...instead of frieni it should say friend

Strange s/he only corrected one of  18 typos (counting lack of capitalization)

We're sure antiunion1 isn't a stranger to the Repor village idiocy, but since we don't have yet have a clue, (Hodgie Baby?)  we're opening a new case file.

Village Idiot of the day, December 12, 2011:  antiunion1

We're looking forward to more wit and wisdom.

Nighty Night, Tom: Just S Tom Put to Bed for While

We don't want to prolong your pain any longer than necessary--or ours-- so we will put Just S Tom to bed for the remainder of June, unless he really out Tom's himself., especially on some trivial matter. Besides, with all his awards, we don't want him to get a head the size of a Kraus Party Pizza.

That said, though, we are posting one more biker post from tom that appeared late yesterday, and a backslap from his buddy csdunson. No rewards for any.

Bike rally to support repeal of SB5 Saturday
Just S tom
Harley Davidson and its union have a great relationship....THEIR UNION cannot make threats or act like greedy lil babies...

Harley stated their bottom line...if they strike...The company will move to a State with right to work options......PERIOD.

UNIONS stick to budget and to the point....no hostage taking

i love Harley Davidson....and Harley likes ME.

Nighty night, Just S tom. Don't let the bed bugs bite! Of course they wont bite. Millionaires don't are immune from bedbugs! Only unionists and liberals have them.

And now for cs:

csdunson
What kind of turnout did the thugs get this time ?

We have some questions for cs:

When, in the eyes of conservatives such as yourself, who worship security at any cost, did safety services become "thugs."

When, in the eyes of conservatives such as yourself, who constantly complain about the great unwashed and uneducated of Canton, did teachers become "thugs."

Does union membership cause thuggery?

If you don't know if someone is a union member are they a thug or are they exempt from thuggery until otherwise exposed?

Are fire fighters so thuggish, threatening, and frightening that you would refuse them entry to your property if your house were on fire?

Are EMTs so thuggish, threatening, and frightening that you would refuse them entry to your home if your mother had suffered a stroke?

Would you refuse police intervention if your wife were being held at gunpoint by a deranged neighbor?

Would you, or have, you pulled your kids out of school to protect them from the greedy claws of scruffy union thugs?

Do you refuse to register your car, a deed to your home, pay a traffic fine, walk on a clean floor in government buildings, or talk to a government-employed secretary out of fear of union assault from those who do that work?

If your child grew up and joined a union, would you still speak to him or her?

Bruce Hodgkins (bhodgkins): An Appreciation

I Hate Canton got a late start Monday, so we'll jump right in.

Bruce Hodgkins, aka bhodgkins aka Hodgie, aka Hodgie-Baby is one our our favorite posters.

He's not malevolent like ocean and her incarnations. Like Bummy (see "characters" sidebar) you just can't hate Bruce. Of course you don't have to love him, either. He and Don Cirelli and TAC/Henry Rollins, have had more go-rounds than Starbuck's has coffeshops, yet, at least for us, there's a certain loveablity about the coot. A self-described conservative of some mysterious stripe, Bruce embraces, corporations, international banking, and globalism. (We're unsure about war.)

Systemic rot is not in Hodgie's vocabulary. If you're out of work, it's your own damned fault. You should have taken a second or third job, majored in something "relevant," saved more money, not bought that cell phone or DVD player, and kissed your boss' ass. Most importantly, you should have never joined that union.

Bruce appears to get most of his news and news analysis from Worldnet Daily Jerome Corsi, and Orly Taitz. His favorite"historian" is Glenn Beck University and rightwing Texas Republican political operative David Barton. According to Hodgie, Glenn Beck has never uttered an untruth. Bruce thinks Snopes is a leftwing website. Rep commenters are leftwing liberal, socialist, communist pinkos: Democrats.

We occasionally agree with Bruce, but most of the time we, well...laugh at him. He's sort of an antebellum Protestant (may the Pope forgive him!) poker-up-the-ass, time machined into a 21st century vanity fair fighting desire, temptation, hedonism, atheism, bright lights, consumable goods, and welfare mothers. No matter how often his facts are documented to be unfactual, Bruce is always right. We think he spends a lot of his time swatting commies hiding under his bed.

We were especially amused to see Hodgie-Baby's comments Sunday under a Letter to the Editor, The Other Side of Dependency, Outsourced, then Part-time written by the improbably named Richard Pickles of North Canton (btw, he's real; IHC located him) grouching about outsourcing and crap jobs for those left behind lucky enough to get them, while corporations run unchallenged in post capitalist America.

Mr. Pickles wrote in part:

The part-time income (28 hours), a minimum-wage job ($7.40 an hour in Ohio) at the local burger joint, grosses just over the allowed amount of income to qualify for state cash assistance (around $400 a month).

Never having been in a situation like that, it seems difficult to imagine living there willingly. Multiply this hypothetical family by several million, and worrying about a few welfare cheats seems to miss the point.

With huge corporations paying no taxes at all, cutting the deficit off of middle-income people and the retired, and allowing the wealthy to get by with no increase, is also less than fair.

Mr. Pickles remarks must have given Bruce post-Communion gas. He whipped off the following comment

What is the matter with the liberal mind? Why can't people keep what they earn? It is un-American for the government to forcefully take money from one group of people and give it to another. Not only that, it is a stupid practice to take money from the job creators. corporations don't pay tax, they collect taxes from people that buy or use their products and services. Pretty soon the business becomes non-competitive and moves their operation out the country. How about lowering the income tax on the wealthiest 5% and eliminate corporate income tax entirely. Mr. Pickles would soon be back at work.

I Hate Canton actually agrees with Hodgie. Income tax is un-American, though we'd probably come up with a better phrase if we had the time.

We, however, find it difficult to support Hodgie's claim that corporations should be exempt from paying income tax because they create the jobs and "collect taxes" from people that buy or use their products and services." According to Bruce, it's OK (in a manner of speaking) for the government to dun taxes from individuals who profit from working for corporations (secretaries, mill hands, truck drivers, store clerks, landscapers, scientists, computer engineers, nurses, house painters, brick masons, mechanics) but it's not OK for the government to collect taxes on the profits that corporations themselves make from selling their goods and services, which are generated from the labor of those it's OK to tax. IOW, Bruce seems to think that only those who make money for corporations should have to pay income tax. Corporations that profit from the work of their employees should not. Next ,we supposed he'll tell us that we should all pay our bosses for the privilege of working for them.

Excuse us for a moment while we uncross our eyes.

Our original intention was to name Bruce our Village Idiot of the Day for May 22. He received the honor earlier this month for claiming that the Great Depression started with FDR when Herbert Hoover was clearly overseeing the country during the unfortunate events of October 1929. Besides, there are so many Hodgieisms that are deserving of daily awards. We apologize for keeping them from you while we were on hiatus.

IHC, however, decided to write a simple appreciation of Bruce. He has lot of awards coming so why not start out with a big I Hate Canton hug and go from there? After all, if it weren't for Hodgie, the Rep would be a much more boring place to visit.

Oh... btw. According to Intellius, Mr. Pickles, is 79 years old. As soon as the Walton family gets their Hodgkins Tax Break and Wal-Mart becomes a "non-profit," our letter writer can start a brand new career as a greeter.

Village Idiot of the Day, August 12, 2009: TMelvill

Yesterday, the Rep published an account of the latest Stark County Commissioners meeting: County Commissioners Place Renewal Levy on November Ballot. Normally, we skip over Commissioner news. We're not sure why they even exist. For some reason, though, during our morning news perusal, we stopped by, and are we glad we did!

Seems that during the weekly meeting of the County Commissioners, Sheriff Tim strip-search-her-for-her-own-good,-boys,hehhehheh Swanson sent a letter to the board complaining about his department's lousy finances. Here is how Kelli Young reported the Sheriff's lament:

Read a letter from Stark County Sheriff Timothy Swanson about the department’s financial condition and staffing. Swanson said that staffing has dropped from 255 workers in 2007 to 224, including 40 employees who are paid by grants or through contracts and not from the county’s general fund. Due to increased prisoner bookings at the county along with additional obligations, Swanson said the office is researching going to 12-hour shifts to help with staffing shortages, but would need the approval from the unions. “We are stretched to a critical point and will have to address closing portions of the jail as our next challenge,” Swanson wrote.

It's unclear from Young's report what Swanson expects the county to do about it. Probably, the Sheriff's account on his screwed up jail is a test drive to terrorize the public into demanding more money for the county's humble hotel and security service.

It's an old trick.

That said, the idea of closing down jails, laying off deputies, and making Canton and environs even more unsafe from native and illegal thugs that Reppies insist rule our local highways and byways can't make the most unpleasant Reppie do the happy dance. There's a silver lining though, that should lighten their fearful load. Swanson's threat of 12-hour shifts for deputies and staff--IF he can bring the union around. (right!) Why do we think the sheriff will try to turn this into 12 hours work for 8 hours pay? Since Swanson reportedly puts up his Gone Fishin' sign and spends as little time at the jail that he can get away with, he won't have to deal with the problems that such stretched service might create anyway.

Of course, this wet dream isn't gonna happen, except in the jealous mind of TMelvill who can't stand the idea that somebody, somewhere has some job benefit he doesn't.

TMelvill
If the union's do not want to agree to work 12 hour shifts then shut the jail wing/s/ down and lay off those jailers necessary to meet the budget. It is high time we let these 'unions' know that they too work for the taxpayers and that we are not getting pay raises or even coming close to their health care, pensions and benefit packages. At the same time the sheriff has to recognize that double-dipping is unacceptable anytime, but especially when we are confronted with 12.4% unemployment in the non-public sector of Stark County.

But there's more to this than just fiscal jealousy and a dislike for union cops who are probably closet Marxists anyway. In a separate comment, TMelvill reveals he supports jail closures, deputy layoffs, and public unemployment because he's better trained than most cops to handle law enforcement situations. TMelville and Mrs. TMelvill, you see, are "fire arm trained," locked, and loaded. And they have dogs. No doubt cops would just get in the way of TMelvill Justice. And vice versa.

TMelvill
I don't need an officer to respond. My wife and I are firearm trained and certified. I doubt that any officer is better prepared. You can protect yourself to if you decide to take responsibility. The fact is that if and when someone were to attack you there is no chance of an officer being there to take care of you.

My dogs, burglar alarm and cameras protect my acreage and house. I was taught as a child to take responsibility for yourself and your property. So, in a sense I guess I put my life on the line every day for the sake of my community and myself. In fact, I even have a CCW. Perhaps some day I may even come to your rescue.

I Hate Canton feels Melvill's pain. We are all for self-defense. We don't particularly care for police, though Marxist law enforcers serving and protecting Stark Countians pique our interest. Do they discuss What is to be Done with crack dealers? We love guns. Theoretically we support CCW. We just don't like its implementation by whacked Constitutionalists who have little regard for private property rights beyond their their own front door. We find it especially odd that these self-defined anti-government types (depending on the government, of course) have no problem signing up their guns with the police, and are dumb enough not to know they will be the first to lose their police-approved weaponry when the wrong government takes notice.

For being snooty and panting at the thought of union cops being thrown out of work because they are union cops, we once again name TMelvill Village Idiot of the Day, August 12, 2009

Bring it on, TMevill!

Village Idiot of the Day, August 10, 2009: Sourdough Sal, TMelvill

The Nazi meme refuses to retire.

Apparently, Reppies don't know that once they evoke Nazis (or Hitler) they evoke Godwin's Law and its consequences: their arguments are invalidated and exposed for the crackpottery they are.

In our society of instant gratification, I Hate Canton knows that calling Barack Obama or George W. Bush or even Jamie Healy a Nazi feels good. We've done it ourselves occasionally, but never during a serious conversation, and certainly not in public. That would be taking ourselves and our hyperbole way too seriously, while we insult the intelligence of the other parties to the conversation.

Calling somebody a Nazi trivializes the historic Nazi dictatorship and Hitler and shows an unmitigated lack of historical comprehension. It angers and disgusts people who actually know and sometimes experience what real Nazis are and what they do. I Hate Canton actually knows people who equate embryonic stem cell research to Nazi ovens. When anybody--Jews, for instance, who lost families in the Holocaust or survived death camps themselves--dares to call these nincompoops on their historically and politically challenged extrapolations, they are lectured back (1) you don't understand, or conversely, you of all people, should understand; (2) you should be glad you're alive; (3) you're a crypto Nazi yourself; and (4) what they really mean: shut up.

Evoking Hitler is an intellectually and morally bereft rhetorical device that only makes the writer look thick-as-a-brick to most rational people, even those who otherwise might agree in principle with the writer's dislike for an individual or policy-- except the small band of similar-minded loons who never went beyond the playground bullypen.

This, of course, makes no difference to our Reppies who like to pretend that making a lot of noise means they're actually saying something. Our old VIOD Sourdough Sal, for instance, never tires of flying high over 500 S. Market in her own personal gasbag. Yesterday, she took on Canton's historical working class base by writing that the AFL-CIO = Hitler's Brown Shirts.

Sourdough Sal
Donna Brazile: Rx for Reform Means Dialogue Not Disruption.
First off let's get this Nazi thing straight. Nazi's or national socialist party wanted a national government run health care. Which side is that? Brown shirts were Hitler's minions who roughed up the citizens who tried to speak out against what the government was doing. ACORN, SEIU, AFLCIO anyone? Herr Obama calling out his 'brown shirts' to shut up, rough up, drown out protestors? While we are on the subject of Nazi's - in the past few months, which party threw Israel under the bus and sided with the Palistinians? Anyone?

We as Americans have a fundamental right to speak out. No matter who it is. I remember the shrill cries during the Bush years. So I suggest the democrats zip it and allow us to have our say!

On another note, we have Michelle Obama fashion critic and commie hunting gadfly TMelvill (see IHC August 6 below), attacking the patriotic capitalism of 2nd Ward Councilman Thomas West. West, much to TMelvill's pain, made the reasonable suggestion that owners of vacant lots and buildings give them up so they can be used by others who might actually improve the property and not let it rot and collapse or be cared for by crackheads, amateur arsonists, and thugs with pit bulls as current owners are wont to do.

Here's the scenario. Mr. West wrote in his August 11 letter to the editor: Canton Must Begin Taking Advantage of Its Opportunities:

We need people to stop holding onto their vacant homes and lots. I would like to see individuals who own vacant lots, houses, and buildings give their property to the next generation in an effort to create or develop something new for our city. When a successful business closes, we need individuals who have energy, passion and knowledge to step up and recreate that business, but they need an affordable and supportive space to begin. Canton has plenty of vacant space.

He closed saying:

We need to celebrate the ideas, visions, risk-taking endeavors, and successes of the people in our community, especially the younger generation. We need to stop putting barriers and negativity in the way of people with new ideas and vision. We also need government to get out of the way of community and economic (business) development. We don't need more government hurdles or fees.

How translates as a call for jackboot eminent domain eviction against an innocent population much less illegal property seizure by the state is another mystery we'll leave Reppies to explain. Perhaps West was really calling for the abolition of private property but we are too brainwashed by the current Nazi-Communist Messianic Obama regime to interpret the secret code.

Whatever, here's TMelvil's response. We can't wait for a follow-up explanation, but we bet we'll have to.

Let me also remind you Mr. West that your signing your letter as a government official is nothing more than government intimidation. The Constitution, both federal and state, as well as common law protect property owners' rights. Individuals have the right to acquire, hold, use or not use property. Neither you nor your city council cronies can deny us that right. Start by looking up the 5th Amendment 'nor be deprived of life, liberty, or PROPERTY, without due process of law; nor shall PRIVATE PROPERTY be taken for PUBLIC USE, without just compensation.'

The subject of absentee landlords, abandoned buildings, and irresponsible renters has been a topic at the Rep for as long as we have been reading "Comments." We do not remember TMelvill complaining when residents of receding neighborhoods such as the near-Lehman High School area, the the Newton corridor, and the 12th & Cleveland Avenue area make the same suggestions in much stronger terms that did Mr. West yesterday. In the recent discussions on what to do with Lehman HS, abandoned 25 years ago by the Board of Education and city, TMelvill, at least under that name, didn't make a peep. Maybe it's only when a Democratic politician makes the suggestions that the paranoid TMelvill hits the keyboard.

We are happy then, to name Sourdough Sal and TMelvill co-winners of The Village Idiot of the Day Award, August 10, 2009.
