John Gunther Rises from the Dead; Posts on Rep!

It's a miracle, we tell ya! A miracle!

Journalist John Gunther, best known for his "Inside" series and Death Be Not Proud, rose from the dead about 10 this morning to post on the Rep, specifically to point people to I Hate Canton. We are as tickled as a pickle in a plum tree that we're on his radar in the Great Beyond.

Sad to say, though, that his near 40-year absence from this clime of woe has dulled Gunther's reportorial skills. We thank, John, however, for reminding us of the "N Word." We have added "nitwit" to our vocabulary.

To clear up any confusion, IHC has indeed invited Charita, Tim Botos, and editor Gauger to jump ship and join the Lollipop Brigade at I Hate Canton, but they they haven't yet accepted our offer. Something to do with a living wage and the Newspaper Guild. Our radical liberal legal team is working on it as we write.

There's never justification for Repository's Using N Word
I was recently directed to an anti-Canton hate website where I saw the 'N' word used in relation to Rep writer Charita Goshay. I was stunned by this. The site also prominently featured the Reps editors phone number.

Prior to writing this, I checked back there and I can find no longer any reference to the N word so they must have been pressured to remove it. I hope the Rep is not a part of this website in any way but the Rep references and contact phone numbers still exist.

One Trick Octo Makes Crazy Allegations; I Hate Canton Incites Public to Violence

Octopuppet is up to its old tricks again Not only has it racked up a week of unprecedented assaults against the Rep and its online readers, mainly through the Mammone murders and related stories, but it's accusing I Hate Canton of disrupting and "taking over the Canton rep." If so, we'd sure like a share of Rep revenue, and we'd love to have Charita Goshay and Tim Botos in our stable. Maybe Jeff Gauger could join us for an occasional guest blog on 'net civility.

Sunday morning, using the name "Sweet Kristin," Octopup accused I Hate Canton and respected long-time Rep commenters of "inciting hate and violence," making "violent threats" and carrying a vendetta against it--or somebody. The message is so disconnected and illiterate, it's hard to tell. I Hate Canton and associates are, according to it, a "vicious and dangerous group [that] should be looked at by local police."

I guess it told us!

I Hate Canton has made the big mistake in not archiving "Sweet Kristin's" past dollops to the Rep, though we did cite one the other day when she said she hoped the FBI would investigate Don Cirelli's "secret identity." One thing SweetK forgot: If Mr. Cirelli is posting under a "secret identity" then he is no different from dozens of other posters--including "Sweet Kristin"-- who post under "secret identities." If pseudonymously posting on a newspaper website is a federal crime, then, of course, it is most appropriate that the FBI investigate, if it already hasn't, "Sweet Kristin" and her entourage.

"Sweet Kristin" makes the odd claim that Cirelli's mother, former Ohio State Rep and current City Council member Mary Cirelli "controls" and "runs" I Hate Canton and is "slinging mud" at the Rep because she is jealous of do-nothing mayor Healy. As far as we know there is nothing to be jealous of Healy about, and Mrs. Cirelli gets along fine with the Rep. She also doesn't post on the Rep, so what she is really guilty of only her hairdresser knows for sure. Perhaps the FBI, when it is investigating Don Cirelli's "secret identity," can clear up the matter and take appropriate measures if mud is found on Mrs. Cirelli's Forzieris.

All this huffinpuff is rich, coming from a pseudonymous entity who posts under about 60 (known) names, and has accused commenters, public officials, and political candidates by name of theft in office, drug dealing, pedophilia, and lately inciting violence.

It is rich coming from a pseudonymous entity that has cruelly demeaned and degraded Mary Parker's dead child and used the murder of the Mammone children to fuel its little hate machine.

It is rich coming from a pseudonymous entity that has spread vicious gossip online about Rep reporter Gary Brown and an infrequent poster.

It is rich coming from a pseudonymous entity that has accused I Hate Canton of "terrorism" and "slander," and threatened to call the police on us.

It appears that our earlier suggestion that Octopuppet acquire a copy of Blacks' Law Dictionary to hone its legal knowledge has gone unheeded. It can't say we didn't warn it , then, when the cops, prosecutors and litigators boot its bottom out their office doors when they stop laughing long enough to pick themselves off the floor.

By the way, can anyone explain to us how an anonymous person can be "slandered." If the PV boot fits? But then that boot can dig up all sorts of unpleasant worms.

Below is "Sweet Kristin's" morning missive (typos and satirical impairment in tact). It appeared under Charita Goshay: Even with a Million Words It Can Be Hard to Communicate, Time to Stop Saying We'll Do Something about Crime, then Turning Other Cheek and reportedly another article whose name we don't know. The Repository staff has rightly removed them all.

Part of the problem with our City government is the vicious group of haters that have taken over the Canton rep, online posting. This web site was meant to be a place for concerned citizens to voice their opinion on issues reported. It has been disrupted by the I Hate Canton Group. This vicious and dangerous group should be looked at by local police. It is not just a blog but a blog that incites hate and violence. This site is controlled by mostly people who live outside the city who are led by one local politican and her son and his cohorts. They will go so far as to stage phony posts to get attention.

Recently a women who ran for council at large posted a violent comment recommending a 'blanket party be held' to beat up someone they have been brainwashed to believe make a comment that they did not.

Cindy Vignos posted the following comment on I Hate Canton. ' Cynthia Vignos said... I don't want to condone violence or illegal activity, but one has to admit that this seems appropriate:

Blanket Party = usually a reaction to a long-term annoyance brought about by one person, a blanket party is where an unsuspecting person is taken by surprise when a blanket is thrown over them and they are wrestled to the ground, then beaten with blunt objects by other members of the group. ...although it would be a shame to ruin a perfectly good blanket on the likes of her. June 12, 2009 8:54 AM'. Can one only imagine has she won the election what she would have done with her power. Thank goodness the voters of Canton did not elect her.

There are ring leaders on the site that the Canton Rep continues to allow to post. Don Cirelli has been disgruntled and will do anything to bring down the Mayor. Why--person vendetta because the voters chose the Mayor over his Mom for the State House. The Repository has allowed it;S online comments to harrass and threaten posters. I hold them directly repsonsible if anyone is a victim of harm due to there web site. This Mary Parker/.Don Cirell group must be stopped. I believe either one of these people would stop at nothing short of violence to get there own way The Repository needs to take alook at these people. They could care less about the people of Canton. Truth be told, we are bored with Octopup's antics. They were tiresome in high school and they are tiresome now. So many real Canton characters and stories are much more fun.

We know some will disagree with us, but I Hate Canton believes that editor Gauger really wants to fix this mess. There is absolutely nothing in it for the Rep to keep this thing going. We look forward to the new comment system that may be coming and not soon enough. We also commiserate with Gauger and his drafted net nannies who are charged with dismantling the stink bombs Octo lobs at us all nearly every day. It's a dirty job trying to eradicate this vermin from the Internet, or at least the Repository's part of it.

I Hate Canton is not sure that ignoring Octo works, since if ignored, it just invents some more entities and sucks people into its sinkhole. Everybody, no matter what your politics are, when you spot an octopuppet making a really offensive ad hominem attack on a commenter, even if you don't like that commenter or what they say, flag it. Send a copy to Jeff Gauger and complain. Take back the marketplace of ideas offered by the Rep and return to lively, but civil discussion.

I Hate Canton is a big fan of Martin Olson and his Stark County Political Report. It's the best Stark County political news source around. We really enjoyed his June 12 re-publication of Stark County's Leading Group Think blog reminding us what we all know, but MSM won't talk about: how incestuous, doofy, vacuous, vapid, provincial, and kiss-up local players really are. I Hate Canton had philosophical differences with Stanley Cmich, but oh, how we long for him now!

Honorable Mention: Concerned Father for suggesting under Stark County MRDD Eliminates Jobs to Cut Costs that long time volunteer MRRD and mental disabilities advocate Mary Parker needs to find her "better half" and shut up. We think this translates into "you need to get laid." Since Concerned Father has been carping and kvetching about MRRD and its levy since before Carter invented his Little Liver Pills, we suggest that it's he who needs relief. Unfortunately, readers will just have to take our word for the comment. Just now we went back to cut and paste the exact quote and found the comments disabled and disappeared. Hey, Rep, no fair!

Our second place award today goes to Canton Bachelorette for putting 911 in it's place. In a discussion on the alleged slow 911 response time in the Eakins/Mammone murders, Ms Bachelorette wonders if the same lazy dispatcher who refused to send a squad car out immediately over her son's stolen bike, is the same dispatcher who who took the Eakins/Mammone call. That someone would call 911 over a stolen bike is alarming enough, but to prioritize the theft of a bike with the brutal murder of two children and their grandmother is well...just plain village idiocy.

Actually the 911 call IS on another site. Either fox news 8 or ABJ. I DID listen to it. I have to wonder if that dispatcher is the same one that told me that I should follow the thug home that stole my son's bike and then rode it past my house the next 3 nights. She pretty much told me that the police had better things to do. The dispatcher from the first 911 call in this matter sounded to me like she was annoyed that she actually had to take the call or do some work. The neighbor begs her to send an ambulance and she tells him that they just send a police car in this type of thing. I could hear the annoyance in her voice. I am not saying that this could have saved a life, but it is frustrating to hear.

Finally. our First Place winner for June 12, 2009 is mustangman. MM has been bucking for a Grand Prize for some time now, and he certainly deserves it for putting the buck-stops-here blame on bank robberies right smack where it belongs: on Barack Obama. Hi Jeff, I, like so many others, am just baffled, lost for words, when I see comments like those above, being allowed over and over into your comment section. Please try to imagine the feeling of a Mom, or even a Dad that loved their child so very much

I hope you never experience the pangs, the heartbreak of losing a child. Dealing with that has been a personal thing between me and God. No one, no matter how supportive, can put the pieces back together when your heart falls apart. Only my faith and belief in God, gives me the solace that can only come with knowing that my child is in a better place. He's shed the mental retardation now that limited him to a life of being non-verbal. He couldn't say "Bye Mom" as he boarded that big yellow MRDD bus every morning for over 40 years, or "What's for supper" when he disembarked that bus at the end of the day. He doesn't walk with that limp anymore. He doesn't have to crawl up the steps on all fours any more. He's whole again. No one in heaven will have to feed him. He can get that fork to his mouth all by himself now. He's no longer an MRDD client. They did a wonderful job with him for decades, but their job is over now. My job as Darry;'S caregiver is over.He doesn't need me any more, but my job here isn't over. I have worked for MRDD as a volunteer and advocate for over 40 years I can't desert them because Darryl has moved on. They still need me. The clients, like my children still need me to be a voice for them.

My son suffered greatly here on earth. His entire life, from birth to death he was the object of ridicule. To now see him desecrated by ignorant writers in your newspaper is almost more than I can bear. When he died, I thought the snickering, the teasing, the crude remarks were over. Little did I know that people would be allowed to come on your comment section, almost daily, and still degrade him. I never dreamed that the Repository would be used as a vessel to taunt me about my son.

To continually be hit in the face with comments talking about "how hot it is down here", or how deep he is buried in the ground. I know he's in heaven. I know he's telling me, "Don't shed anymore tears for me Mom, I'm okay." My daughter, who reads these comments daily when returning from her MRDD job, is constantly in tears these day. I try to reassure her about death, but one of your idiots comes along, and makes a stupid remark, which is all they're capable of, and it scares her. I don't want her to be afraid of dying.

You say you can't do anything about it, except remove it hours later, ONLY after one of my friends brings it to your attention. I can't believe it. How can you allow these same people to come on and make those ignorant remarks? YOU know who they are. You put your good writers, such as Denise, Linda, Leslie and Don, or a delayed 'thingamagig' that prevents them from making instant comments, you've had some on that system for months, which isn't fair, while you allow these stupid,ignorant people to rant and rave, and say things about my son, over and over again. Rep Wreckers Continue to Exploit Dead Children

The abuse of dead children continues to be a Rep Wrecker theme. We hesitate to classify these cheap shots as village idiocy. After all "idiocy" is generally a sign of abject cluelessness or purposeful ignorance. Using or attacking dead children to hurt posters, is simply evil.

I Hate Canton believes that psychic pedophiles should be held up to public ridicule and scorn. It would be even better, of course, if these deviants posted under their real names, so their neighbors and friends could know them for what they are and treat them appropriately. The vampires, of course, know this and would as soon ascribe their name to their demented comments as they would move to North Korea.

After deliberation, we have decided to forgo our Daily Village Idiot Award today, and once more focus on the continuing abuse of dead children.

What does I Hate Canton have to do with calling for the resignation of Canton Mayor William Healy? We don't know. But ottertk1 seems to.

Below is a full comment, posted this morning, by former Village Idiot ottertk1 under a Letter to the Editor: It's Time for Mayor to Go. After making a perfectly sound and agreeable observation about the Canton police and its handling of the two recent multiple murder cases, otter drags IHC into a cameo appearance, with no context. We don't mind making personal appearances, and we certainly can improvise, but we do like to be paid.

'Zero tolerance' from the mayor means that he will work with the police to ensure that officers are present in high crime areas. After that, it's up to the police and court system. It's my opinion that the police did an outstanding job in the last couple of multiple murder cases here in Canton. Now it's up to the justice system.

The mayor of Akron is having a recall election later this month. If the writer thinks that the mayor should step down, then he should start a recall petition. He'll then find out just how many other people agree with him.

As far as the I Hate Canton websites go, they are managed by one person who believes that only their opinion counts and anyone who differs is a clown. Pay no attention to these. These managers have a severe personality problem and need to seek professional help. When visiting these blogs, please keep in mind that the blogger isn't playing with a full deck of cards. Take pity on them. Don't believe them.

We suppose there are worse things to be called than "clown." Like "satirically challenged."

Put on Your Gas Masks: Stinkbombs Lob Repository

On Monday the Washington Post published the transcript of a WaPo chat with Daily Beast writers Tucker Carlson (Fox News contributor) and Ana Marie Cox (Air America). Cox addressed the issue of a "private" blogger outed by a "public" blogger, aka "the Whalen episode" which had the blogsphere all awhirl last week. We are publishing a substantial part of Cox's comments below:

Ah yes, the Whalen espisode. I've written under a pseudonym more than you'd guess (HA!), and I think it's important to make a distinction between "pseudonymous" writing and "anonymous" writing. Anonymous writing, to me, means taking every care that no one knows who wrote the item -- or if the author has ever written anything else or ever will again. An article that is anonymously authored exists in a vacuum. An article written by someone who consistently identifies himself the same way (as "Publius") did is at least giving readers a way to engage/argue/fact-check/hold accountable. "Anonymous writing allows you to throw a stinkbomb and run away with no one having spotted you. Pseudonymous writing allows you to throw a stinkbomb while wearing a mask, but you can't run away.

Stinkbomb is the perfect word to describe what's been tossed at online Rep readers the last couple days.

I Hate Canton published one example yesterday--a malicious attempt by someone using the quite suitable pseudonym "cowardbehindascreenname" linking long-time poster Don Cirelli to accused killer James Mammone implying that Cirelli is a potential murderer. A couple months ago "another" poster suggested that Cirelli had an unhealthy interest in children.

Obviously, using murdered children to pursue a personal grudge has limited efficacy. Even the most wingnutty Reppie draws the line at some things. Fortunately, (for it) our ubiquitous vendettaist with more agendas than J. Edgar Hoover, has enough stinkbombs in its old kit bag to smell up the Rep for months unless it's caught and caged. We keep waiting for it to blow itself up, but like Jason (or is that the Energizer Bunny?) it just keeps going and going and going.

Here for instance, is a libelous comment about Mayor William Healy. Not that I Hate Canton rallies 'round the Team Healy flag, but, let's face it, if the writer had attached its real name to the allegation, it would be staring down the barrel of a libel suit:

I also hear that 'anonymous' emails went to council members, candidates for council and other elected officials slamming certain city residents because No. 1 they are not dems and No.2 because of some jealousy thing. I hear that the author of those emails is about to get served civilly because of barking up a wrong tree. Unfortuantely, the plaintiff probably will receive no satisfaction because it is common knowledge that dumpy spends all her money on whiskey and expensive Virginia Slims. Lovin' it too.

We don't believe for one moment that Jeff Gauger and the Rep find these antics amusing. Gauger wrote recently in his blog that he is looking into a new registration system that will stop much of this online harassment and abuse. In the meantime certain anonymous posters with unstable identities have, after a brief stay, once more gained the upper hand getting comment threads shut down just for the fun of it. And that's no fun for decent Cantonphiles who simply want to say their piece in peace. No newspaper should be the repository of hateful, vicious, vile remarks by anonymous people who get their kicks from hurting others.

Lower Than Low: The Mammone Murders as Personal Agenda

This is not about village idiocy. It is about hate.

In the last couple days, some very ugly comments have appeared in the Rep. They appear to be posted by the same person using different names, though we lack the ability to prove it. Most comments have been removed. I Hate Canton plans to post some more of them later, but due to our minor, but annoying computer problems are still sorting through them.

For the moment, we publish this low-as-can-go comment. It appeared under Mayor Healy Urges Officials to Find Ways to Slash Budget written by the fittingly-named cowardbehindascreenname.

The comment has nothing to do with the article it is attached to, but since most comments on the Mammone triple murder were disabled, it "had" to go somewhere, under the rules of Let No Tragedy Go Unexploited.

Hey Cirelli--how many different names a day are you going to use. BTY aren't you related to James Mammone? When are you scheduled to go off the hook?

Using the brutal murders of two small children and their grandmother by the children's father to pursue a bizarre personal vendetta with a longtime poster and member of a respected Canton political family is vile and despicable--if not crazy. What anonymous cowardbehindascreenname hoped to gain, outside of some mental masturbatory satisfaction is a mystery. It can't be sympathy.

We know the the Repository is attempting to dig up the stink weeds that infest the paper, and trust that this specific weed will never sprout again. Of course, it will pop up again like the noxious weed it is, under a different name.

Village Idiot of the Day, June 7, 2009: darby214

We're late today with our awards. I Hate Canton spent the day watching Fritz Lang films on Turner Classic while trying to fix a malfunctioning computer. We lost track of time and the computer still malfunctions.

We could not, however, ignore this malfunctional observation by local cultural critic darby214, about downtown Canton, its residents, fans, and public art. Responding to a letter by former Downtown YMCA Director William R.. Cumler, Both Children and Adults Need Y in Downtown Canton, darby informs us:

Like all of downtown, the Y became a crack den and a hangout for all the scum that frequent the area. The best solution would be to open up only for 'first Friday' so all the artsy fartsy winos dont kill someone on their way back to the richy rich sections of the county they came from after sucking down all the free wine designed to bring people to our beautiful downtown area. PLEASE some abandoned building with a bunch of art one step above finger painting and kindergarten ceramic ashtrays does not a artistic community make.

I Hate Canton is always puzzled by this kind of remark. We have spent long hours downtown and never been accosted by more than an occasional bag lady or reckless bike rider. We do however, remember sexual deviants acting out in the streets of Ridgewood and Harter Heights. Perhaps darby214 was lost and was actually watching antics at The Strip. We were much heartened, to see Ed March stumble upon the scene with this wonderful rejoinder.

Gosh, I went to the downtown YMCA quite often and I'm not sure I would know crack if somebody threw it at me. I went there at least five times a week in the years before it closed and wasn't ever threatened with death or bodily harm. I didn't encounter one person I would call scum, and that includes several of the resident men there. I suppose that shows an experience is what you make of it.

Obviously, Mr. March hangs with the wrong crowd. Or he's mighty lucky. Whatever, the truth, he's our new hero!
