Village Idiot of the Day, May 18, 2009: truck665, febthur, recon

The Gano Family Saga continues to dominate the Village. The condo board, after a lot embarrassing print and TV coverage, has backed down and agreed to let the Ganos keep their Blue Star Flag in the window. Of course, this hasn't stopped our Village Idiots from continuing the war against the couple. Despite JFenno, Paul Cook and various minor kvetcher claims that FlagGate is some kind of "far left liberal," "socialist" or "terrorist" scheme to squelch patriotism in Perry Heights, it become more clear that the real issue is HOA politics. (as if it wasn't clear from the start!)

Truck665 once again courageously steps forward to speak for persecuted law abiders at Central Commons Condos forced to live daily with the distasteful and property-value lowering Blue Star Flag and those Gano show-offs:

Condo Board Tells Couple to Remove Flag Honoring Son in Army
Truck665

I really don't think Fox 8 did the Gano's any justice. They have lived here for more then 4 yrs. All they had to do was Put in writing what they wanted to do. But instead of doing that they blew this all up. I cant wait to go and get my GAY PRIDE flag now. I will be putting it up in the front of the condo's too
Fearing the aesthetic repercussions of a flag-for-all in Blandville brought on by the Gano's unreasonable demand, febhur writes:

febthur
Glad she's moving, she seems like trouble. I bet the condo board just did that so they could avoid problems and I don't blame them. Everyone's cause is just in their own eyes and you let one have a flag you have to let anyone have a flag. Glad this story is over. Good riddance.

And then there's recon's unique take, one that admittedly never occured to I Hate Canton:

recon
now that the lady that complained about the sign knows what it represents, I am sure it is no longer an issue. I will bet she thought it was the star of David or some other jewish symbol. I would think an Association has the right to tell you to keep your Religious beliefs to your self but not your Patriotism.

Truck655 shouted in again on Condo Board Reverses Course; Flag Can Stay in Window:

truck655
GOOD I HOPE THEY MOVE.. THIS WAS NEVER REALLY ABOUT A FLAG BUT ABOUT THE FACT THEY DIDN'T LIKE THE RULES. ALL THEY DID WAS USE IT TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE RULES.

We really hate to give out ties again, but there is such good material here, I Hate Canton gives in, and awards truck655, fedthur, and recon three blue ribbons for excellence in commentary. Can Pulitizers be far behind?

Coming for truck 655 and febthur!

I Hate Canton has another Village idiocy on a different topic, but will hold it over until tomorrow. More comments may be made on it in the meantime.

Village Idiot of the Day, May 16, 2009: TAC, Paul Cook, Julie S, StarkRob

The pages of the Rep were pretty quiet yesterday. Perhaps the Usual Suspects spent the day at St. Joe's on their knees, rosaries in hand, in an attitude of prayer seeking forgiveness for their obsessive wrongdoing.

This doesn't mean, however, that the day wasn't marked by awesome comments from the resident peanut gallery.

Some of the most peculiar comments were posted regarding the Canton City School's Early College Program, which lets qualifying Timken High School students earn a high school diploma and an associate’s degree at Stark State at the same time.

The program is partnered by Canton City Schools, Stark State, Stark Education Partnership and the Canton Professional Educators Association (CPEA) and is partially funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, through the KnowledgeWorks Foundation, and by the Ohio Department of Education. About 200 schools nationwide participate in the program. According to the article, Canton students are outperforming the national average.

Why our local hee-haws have a problem with a program that is helping low income students get a leg up in higher education and vocational skills is a mystery. But after all, this is Canton, Ohio, where nothing is beyond the mewling.

While most of the posts under Milestone for Canton City Schools, Community; First Early College High School Class Graduates were laudatory, the discontents (in order of appearance) brayed in:

Stark Rob
Another 'feel good' story to try to help the self esteem of Canton City Schools.

TAC
Ah, C'mon. What we really want to know is if those teachers are scheduled for a raise and what percent of their healthcare they pay. Educating and making a difference for our youth? Bah! It's all about what I don't have that they do....and my bitterness towards it.

JulieS
With all of the nonsense discipline problems that go on in Canton schools daily, these kids aren't getting much of any training by the time they leave, I don't care if they have a piece of paper in their hands or not.

On the other side of town, the Gano's batttle over their Blue Star Flag continues. While we agree with Paul Cook that the flag should stay, his analysis of Gladys Kravitz Nosy Neighbor Award winner (see previous Village Idiot Award) Judy Clark is enough to get him into the running for Village Idiot. According to Cook, Judy Clark is simply jealous that she has no children fighting in Iraq, Afghanistan or some other far-off outpost and wants to take all the fun of it out on the Ganos:

Paul Cook

Okay, I've heard enough! Let's get real, people! The ONLY reason people act like this is because of ENVY! You know it's true, don't you? Ms Clark may have started this because she has no one in her progeny to honor, and therefore cannot display a star in her own window. Because of this, she must deny others who do have children they can be proud of, (and who, by the way, are fighting and dying so she has the right to voice her opinion), the ability to proclaim this pride! You have to pity people like this, as denigration of others is their only outlet for this frustration. If we allow someone so petty to take away this right, or any right they don't agree with, then we have become a nation of defeated people, the majority of which is led by the minority of self-serving, narcissistic haters. To those who think the rules should be followed to the letter, think on this; 'There shall be no body of government that shall abridge the rights of freedom of speech and expression.' If the rules outlaw either, the rules MUST be changed!

Keep the star, it's your right

This is a tough call, but here's the breakdown:

First Place Village Idiot, May 16, 2009:

For bringing jealously and envy to a new level of understanding to the masses: A tie. TAC and Paul Cook

2nd Place: JulieS

Honorable Mention: StarkRob.

May you all continue to enlighten us with your daily lectures.

Village Idiot of the Day, May 16, 2009: Jfenno,

Leave it to one of our resident wingnuts to link "radical extremist Islam" to stupid condo rules.

According to Condo board tells couple to remove flag honoring son in Army, the Central Commons Condominium Association in Perry Heights has ordered Marlene and Richard Gano to remove their Blue Star Flag from the window of their condo. The couple refuses. The Ganos claim they are breaking no rules since they are barred only from displaying anything on the outside of their condo. Inside doesn't count no matter how aggreived their neighbor Judy Clark, who filed the complaint, begs to differ.

Of course, anyone who has ever been subjected to the tinpot dictatorial powers of a home owners association knows there has to be more to it than this. And there is. Clark, we are informed rather rudely by "truck 655" is, in fact, the acting president of the condo association, a position that Richard Gano held before resigning for reasons unknown to us.

Thankfully, JFenno, knows what's really going on out in Perry and has been courageous enough to inform us:

JFenno:
According to the condo associations declaration filed with the Stark County Recorder, one rule says residents are not to hang or display anything outside of the units windows without the boards consent. The flag is on the inside of Ganos window.'

Case closed.

The display stays.
It sounds like this condo association may be infected with radical islamic extremists' views or perhaps they just have no appreciation for the sacrifices our military and their families are being asked to make.

So, for warning us of the clear and present danger of Islamo-Fascism in the cloak of the Central Commons Condominium Association (above) we are proud to award the May 16, 2009 Village Idiot of the Day award to JFenno.

We also give IHC's coveted Gladys Kravitz Award for nosiness above and beyond the call of condo association duty to Judy Clark. May you continue to dictate well!
