Village Idiot of the Day: May 1, 2011: ocean, mustangman, pamelajean

I Hate Canton had computer problems last night and this morning. We are only now able to get online and cull through yesterday's rendering of news and views.

As soon as we saw new Letters to the Editor, we knew we'd hit paydirt. While we all enjoy responses to articles, it's Letters that get Reppie blood boiling and their fingers nimble. Take, for instance:

Liberals Are to Blame, a short letter from someone named Ord Ely from Lake Township (is that a real name? Actually yes. We checked). We'll post the letter here due to its shortness:

In response to the April 22 letter “Wake up, U.S. needs a lot of help”: We don’t need a lot of help. We need to remove the liberal leaders in Congress, the courts and the White House. If we don’t, we will get the government we deserve, and we will all suffer.

Replies, most not overly absurd, were mounted quickly. (We agree with commenter djay's suggestion to replace the word LIBERAL in your letter with the word POLITICIAN and remove the word LEADERS because we don't have have any, would have made more sense.

But then there's ocean (again!), apparently recovered from yesterday's tree "incident." (see below), right back at the keyboard.

They neen to get rid of the shcool busses here in Canton, Ohio. They are too niosy. We need more nieghborhood schools. Why aren't the kids doing their acedemic classes on the Internet ? I like to work at night and sleep when I can. The school busses are too noisy and disruptive running around here all day.

We've been following Pam for a long time (we know her real name, but to avoid embarrassing her, we won't publish it here), and she's been deserving of recognition for a long time. Pam has often told us she's a hard worker, so we are confident that she can work her way up to the top. So, we'll start her at the bottom. We are happy to make PamelaJean today's runner up not only for her astute linkage of sleeplessness in Canton to natural gas-operated buses, but for giving IHC a truly WTF moment.

Speaking of moving up, we are happy to award mustangman 2nd place today. 'Stang has previously won two HMs for his comments suggesting that Barack Obama encourages bank robbery and that foreign nationals collect welfare. (see right-hand sidebar and click on his name for details.) He is a true leader in the fight against liberalism in Canton AND the United States.

First prize today, of course goes to ocean. We really hate to encourage her (self-identified she) with so many citations, but we see no way around it. Ocean has shown herself to be a true American patriot. Not many have the intellectual capacity to link Arbor Day, SARTA and liberalism into one big picture and to articulate so plainly that even the "common man" can understand.

We must add, however, a cavaet. I Hate Canton is deeply disturbed, that ocean, mustangman and their friends oppose the liberal beliefs upon which the United States was founded: free elections, constitutions, capitalism, and human rights. We're sure one of the local universities would be happy to open a Political Science 101 class to them. Unfortunately, at this time, scholarships are not part of the I Hate Canton VID award package.

Nonetheless, congrats to all our winners: May 1, 2011.

Village Idiot of the Day, June 12, 2009: Concerned Father, Canton Bachelorette, mustangman, ella1rose,

After a few days hiatus, our beloved village idiots were back on track yesterday. It is with great pleasure then, that we present them to you in descending order of idiocy:

Honorable Mention: Concerned Father for suggesting under Stark County MRDD Eliminates Jobs to Cut Costs that long time volunteer MRRD and mental disabilities advocate Mary Parker needs to find her "better half" and shut up. We think this translates into "you need to get laid." Since Concerned Father has been carping and kvetching about MRRD and its levy since before Carter invented his Little Liver Pills, we suggest that it's he who needs relief. Unfortunately, readers will just have to take our word for the comment. Just now we went back to cut and paste the exact quote and found the comments disabled and disappeared. Hey, Rep, no fair!

Our second place award today goes to Canton Bachelorette for putting 911 in it's place. In a discussion on the alleged slow 911 response time in the Eakins/Mammone murders, Ms Bachelorette wonders if the same lazy dispatcher who refused to send a squad car out immediately over her son's stolen bike, is the same dispatcher who who took the Eakins/Mammone call. That someone would call 911 over a stolen bike is alarming enough, but to prioritize the theft of a bike with the brutal murder of two children and their grandmother is well...just plain village idiocy.

Actually the 911 call IS on another site. Either fox news 8 or ABJ. I DID listen to it. I have to wonder if that dispatcher is the same one that told me that I should follow the thug home that stole my son's bike and then rode it past my house the next 3 nights. She pretty much told me that the police had better things to do. The dispatcher from the first 911 call in this matter sounded to me like she was annoyed that she actually had to take the call or do some work. The neighbor begs her to send an ambulance and she tells him that they just send a police car in this type of thing. I could hear the annoyance in her voice. I am not saying that this could have saved a life, but it is frustrating to hear.

Finally. our First Place winner for June 12, 2009 is mustangman. MM has been bucking for a Grand Prize for some time now, and he certainly deserves it for putting the buck-stops-here blame on bank robberies right smack where it belongs: on Barack Obama. (For some reason all these comments have been disabled, too. Did the Secret Service step in?)

Village Idiot of the Day, May 29, 2009: "Oberlin Schools Retain Ban on Pledge of Alligiance" and Sub-awards to Numerous Others in Thread

Sometimes you just know when an article is going to be trouble. For instance, as soon as I Hate Canton saw Oberlin Schools Retain Ban on Pledge of Allegiance, we said to ourself, Nellie, bar the door!

The Oberlin School Board has decided to ban the Pledge in classrooms. Some parents don't like "under God," another family has children with dual citizenship and doesn't like them pledging fealty to the US. Oberlin School Superintendent Geoffrey Andrews offered a compromise that would have allowed the pledge to be read over school public address systems a few times a month without the words “under God,”included. Naturally, that didn't fly (no pun intended), and was defeated by a 3-2 vote earlier this week. (No date given in the story)

Back in the day, I Hate Canton spent a lot of time deadbeating in Oberlin mainly with Wobblies, Chicano organizers, writers, and a few libertarian-type academics. Oberlin was real town/gown, and we'd be surprised back then,that such an idea would have ever taken hold. The townies were ill-read provincials and the gownies were over-educated Marxists, who our crowd, in kinder moments, considered "misguided" and a drain on our energy, though they tended to throw good potluck Sunday brunches we were all too happy to mooch. Outside the confines of the college, townies ruled. Maybe not now.

But whatever is going on up there, it sure got our own local yokels hetted up.

We are giving out our award differently today since there are so many worthy recipients expostulating on the subject of flag saluting in so many ways.

In someone refuses to pledge allegiance to this country in the manner in which Congress has declared, then they should be reported to the Department of Homeland Security. They are truely a risk to the security of this nation. This has nothing to do with religion, but swearing allegiance to a nation. Meaning that you would be willing to lay down your life in defense of it.

If 'little Miss or Mr. Dutch' do not want to pledge to the country that is educating their children, then GO HOME!!! WHO THE HECK NEEDS THESE TYPES OF FOREIGNERS; they are probably not paying any income tax/property taxes/school levy taxes anyway. This just infuriates me; especially after viewing the Memorial Day program on television that made me swell with pride over America and its dedicated men and women of the armed forces, of which SOME, gave their lives so that WE, as Americans can say the Pledge ANY TIME & ANY WHERE WE WISH!!! Those who have given their lives for this country BELIEVED IN THE WORDS ''ONE NATION, UNDER GOD'!!! I'm sure those legislators who wrote and added the words were NOT HIGH SCHOOL DROP-OUTS but very educated individuals. Kudos to Paula Jones who wants the pledge said every day WITH the correct wording. She should be given a permanent position on the Board of Education!!!!! As for the Principal that suggested this 'change' , I think a replacement is in order!!! Perhaps if there were more 'God-fearing' people around, Canton wouldn't have witnessed yet another fatal shooting situation. (love that zero crime tolerance policy) WAKE UP PEOPLE. I, personally, think prayers should be brought back into the school system, JUST ON GENERAL PRINCIPLE as a form of sheer discipline, respect and respect for others. We all have the FREEDOM to choose, but we have that FREEDOM because we live in the U.S.A. The pledge is not asking you to WORSHIP anything. We should all be thankful that we have this right, because if we lived in any other nation you would be told that you have to WORSHIP the flag/nation or you would suffer consequences. It is a PRIVILEGE to be an AMERICAN. We hand out citizenship/passports like it's candy, and that's the problem. If you choose to live in AMERICA, you should say the pledge with PRIDE and fly the AMERICAN FLAG with pride. It's a choice, if you don't like it go somewhere else where you have more FREEDOMS, then let us all know where that is.

Now a very special award for antiquarians who specialize in rousing yet archaic political rhetoric without a clue to the meaning of the phrase they are adopting for modern discussion. Our first JOHANN MOST MEMORIAL ARCHIAC OVER-STATED BLATHER AWARD goes to hopeforchange for appropriating "bloody butcher's apron " the term Scots used for the Union Jack that was once flown in Scottish courtrooms. This award will probably be reserved for the lefties our Reppies hate so much. There is no doubt a appropriate model for conservative commenters who suffer from the same malady. We hate to use William Jennings Bryan, so we shall look around for a more suitable model. Father Coughlin perhaps?

I refuse to say the statist pledge or to fly the butchers apron. The America I could be proud of vanished long ago. Do you know that the Pledge was first introduced by socialist Francis Bellamy in the 1880's? Until the early 1900's most school rooms did not have a flag. People felt more patriotic to the Constitution and Bill of Rights than a piece of cloth. Until the late 1930's government school children said the Pledge with palm and arm thrust out in the fascist salute. I guess the early progressives were successful in changing the meaning of America from individual liberty and freedom, to worship of the state. Instead of telling those of us who long for a return to the American ideals of liberty and peace to leave the country, why dont you leave, and give us our country back.
