Rep Returns Comments

Comments went back up on the Rep this morning sometime after 9:00. Jeff Gauger made a small announcement on his blog with no indication if the "robust" changes he mentioned earlier, were effect, or if there had just been a hiatus. That's OK with I Hate Canton. The less the public knows about how the Rep is patrolling Comments, the less chance certain trolls will have of breaking in.

It's only been a couple hours. So far. So good. Only time will tell, though.

I believe it's still the same old, rat infested Rep as it always has been. I believe she's already infested Jeff's Blog, being at least three people on there. I'm also pretty sure she's infested the comments, just a little more subdued than usual. The quietness yesterday was the lull before the storm comes to mind.

You know who, will be popping up all over the place with her satanic personality, probably as early as today.

Mr. Gauger is suspiciously absent from his own blog. Maybe he spent the day with a magnifying glass like many of us did. Lol

Oh, man, I can't really say I long for the Bill Marzich days. (as somebody stated on another story) The Rep might have finally stopped him OR (more than likely) his computer broke down.
I really can't understand the Reps reasons for banning commenters or putting them on a delay, especially Jenny P. She has always kept her comments civil and respectful.
It looks like the people who really care about the Rep are getting their comments delayed or banned.
I, too, am suspicious about the Rep comment editors. Why did somebody put Mary's MRDD letter back on the "most commented" last night especially after comments have been banned on it? Was it a joke?
Most of us would really like nothing better than to stop the nonsense of the Rep bullies.
Jeff says a new commenting registration will take months to happen but he should make it top priority. It can't come soon enough.

I agree with Margaret. I always thought it was suspicious when several people got themselves banned/moderated when they never did anything wrong. Now that it has happened to Jenny P too, I am even more convinced that something is up at the Rep. Why can Octopuppet continue to harass others and defy the rules but other people can not even post simple comments that are completely within the posted rules. Why do the good people get moderated while the evil one can continue to run ramped? Could it be she has a tentacle connected to someone at the Rep? Sure looks that way.

What posts are accepted/rejected seems odd at best. One set of comments "Why blame Obama for trying to fix Bush's mistakes?" has seen a steady decline in the number of comments. Heck, I posted a quote by Samuel Adams (appropriate for the thread) and it was immediately rejected.

Odd, very odd.

It certainly is odd, Jim. Obviously there's some monitoring going on. I suspect that some poss go through an automatic filter and are vetted out, but others seem to be picked by hand,at randomm or both for removal. We've received private emails from people complaining that their perfectly harmless remarks never show up or remain a few hours and are then removed. Sometimes they come back later. At the same time, we notice that a few of the usual suspects are posting, though biding their bile for now.

We certainly are glad that somebody is paying attention at the Rep, but a band-aid won't staunch the wounds. Bring on the new registration!

What was your Sam Adams quote? We'll be glad to post it here.

"The Utopian schemes of leveling [re-distribution of the wealth] and a community of goods [central ownership of the means of production and distribution], are as visionary and impractical as those which vest all property in the Crown. [These ideas] are arbitrary, despotic, and, in our government, unconstitutional" - Samuel Adams.

Thanks for the "forbidden quote" Jim! I can't imagine what was so offensive about it.

Actually, I made a closer check and from what I can tell, it looks like no new posts have been allowed since last night. So, it's not just me.

You're right, Jim. We are all persona non gratia, but I suspect/hope it's a server problem.

BD, It appears that comments are back again at the Rep. Jeff G posts in his blog that new users will be subjected to moderation of posts and that people with 'anonymous' type email accounts will be subjected to a higher level of moderation.

I guess it's better than the old system but my gut says that it won't work. We'll just need to see how it turns out.
